Can you feel the buzz of spring in the air? There is a feeling of excitement around here that this season often brings. We have been busy planning and organizing for the season over the past several weeks. The snow has almost melted and seedlings are germinating in the greenhouse. There are many planned projects for around the farm this year including a wash station, an irrigation system and more hoop houses. Luckily, Fair Fields has even more helping hands this year.
We are happy to announce our newest team member for the 2014 season. A warm welcome to Gillian as she joined us last week as our intern. She will be dividing her time between working at Fair Fields and Blackshire Gardens down the road. Gill brings with her several seasons of farming experience and she is also a professional photographer. Check out her website, Footprints to view a sample of her work or to contact. Stay tuned for a Fair Fields family portrait by Gill.
Fair Fields is expanding to 50 members this year. We are more than half way there but please do pass along the word if you know someone who may be interested in joining. For those of you who have done so already….thank-you! We really appreciate you spreading the word. We are looking to get some testimonials from our members last year to put up on the website. What did you like best about being a part of our CSA?
One of my favourite aspects of this business is bringing the community together. We look forward to not only bringing you delicious produce but also seeing all the members at the pick-ups. It won’t be long now before we can catch up on how everyone enjoyed the winter. And to close, I leave you with a photo of our sweet baby girl, Lillian. She is now 6 months old and enjoying pureed squash from last years garden. We still have parsnips and carrots in the root cellar so that is next on the menu. She seems to enjoy the taste but hasn’t quite caught on to swallowing. It often ends up everywhere but that is half the fun~
